ZACHARY SENYSHYN - 21 - Right Winger - Drafted 2015 #15 Overall
LAST UPDATED 2/18/19
The 15th overall selection in 2015, Senyshyn is perhaps the most questionable draft decision in recent memory. Not projected to go until the mid-to-late 2nd round, new general manager Don Sweeney obviously wanted the sniping right winger, picking him far above his projected spot and leaving everyone stunned. Since being selected, Senyshyn has done nothing to silence the naysayers. After being drafted, Senyshyn posted back to back 40 goal campaigns in the OHL, but really struggled as a playmaker. His playmaking struggles have carried over into pro hockey, as his results in the AHL with Providence have only been league average. While a good shooter, Senyshyn has below average hockey sense and is middling to below average in just about every other category, causing many to doubt whether he can ever be an effective NHL player. Still just 21, Senyshyn still has the potential to become a top-9 level forward, but he still needs to improve greatly before he can even play a game in the NHL. Only time will tell whether Senyshyn salvages his career or simply maintains his status as a massive bust drafted right in the middle of one of the greatest first rounds in recent memory.
