ZACH SANFORD - Left Winger - 24 - $1.50MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Zach Sanford finally spent the majority of a season with an NHL club, and he proved his value as a bottom-6 warrior for the cup champion Blues. Sanford is a towering forward with a big frame and legitimate physical tools. His size and strength makes him a force in the trenches, whether they be in front of the net or in the corners, and he's not only capable of but willing to rattle off big hits. Sanford is a bundle of energy and power, and he plays every shift with a feisty, relentless effort that opposing teams struggle to match. Sanford is an asset on offense as a screener and as someone who can dig for pucks when they're dumped in, but in terms of his offensive tools like his skating or shot or passing, he's below average. His shot is fine, and he'll score double-digit goals, but he lacks the puck skills to be a self-starter on offense. Still, he plays very strong on the puck and is a difficult player for his opposition to take the puck from, and as a result there is still some (limited) offensive upside there. It's Sanford's motor and grit that will carry him, though, and right now he's a good big and physical bottom-6 energy forward.
