ZACH BOGOSIAN - Defenseman - 28 - $5.14MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/25/19
Bogosian, one of the few remaining players to have started his career for the now-defunct Atlanta Thrashers, has not quite lived up to his third overall pick draft status. Injuries have certainly played their part, as Bogosian has never played a full NHL season, and that level of being in and out of the lineup hurt his development, but also Bogosian never really became the top-pairing, shutdown defenseman he was supposed to be. He can still play big minutes, but he lacks the discipline and overall defensive ability to play those minutes like a #2 or #1 defenseman. He's still capable of using his great size and strength to kill chances, and he has decent enough mobility to be a slight asset in transition. He has a plus shot from the point and is a veteran of over 600 games, giving him value as a mentor to younger defenseman. Unfortunately, though, his injuries still persist, and those injuries keep a team from being able to count on Bogosian as being a regular part of their defense. With that in mind, Bogosian is more of a #5 defenseman, capable of anchoring a bottom pairing, than a genuine top-4 option.
