WILEY SHERMAN - Defenseman - 23 - Drafted 2013 #150 Overall
LAST UPDATED 2/18/19
Standing at an imposing 6’7, Sherman is a purely defensive defenseman, though not quite as physical as his frame suggests. With very limited offensive ability, the Bruins 5th rounder in 2013 will face an uphill climb in his journey to the NHL. After four years at Harvard University, Sherman signed a two year ELC with Boston in 2018, and has since played exclusively with Providence of the AHL. While not very physical, Sherman uses his long reach and decent skating ability for his size to contain opposing forwards, allowing him to be a very good stay-at-home defenseman. While Sherman has some NHL potential in this role, he probably maxes out as a bottom pairing DFD, which, to be fair, is solid value out of a 5th round pick. Given his age (turning 24 in 2019) and lack of pro experience, it’s more likely he turns into a “AAAA” level defenseman as his development levels out.
