VLADISLAV NAMESTNIKOV - Right Winger - 26 - $4MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 3/5/19
Since coming to NY in the 2018 trade deadline Ryan McDonagh deal, Namestnikov has struggled to recapture the offensive success he had on Tampa's first line. For him, the skill is all there, and when he's on the ice he's always a threat to create offensive opportunities. The issue with Namestnikov has always been fit and consistency. When he was in Tampa playing with Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos, he had 20 goals and 44 points in only 62 games, good for a nearly 60 point pace. But, since arriving in NY, Namestnikov has only 28 points in 80 games, which is obviously a significantly lower offensive output. It's worth mentioning that Tampa as a team is far stronger than NYR, but the point still stands: Namestnikov simply has not been able to find enough consistency to make the most of his obvious talent. And Namestnikov needs his scoring to provide value to his team, as his defensive play is limited, leaving him as more of a top-9 scorer-or-bust kind of player. He's 26, so he's right in the thick of his prime, so he really does have limited time to really make his mark in the NHL. As of right now, things are not looking optimistic.
