VINCE DUNN

VINCE DUNN - Defenseman - 22 - $.722MM Cap hit - RFA in 2020-2021

LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Vince Dunn is an example of the exact the type of young, cheap supporting talent NHL teams need to supplement their more expensive cores to be able to win the cup. Without Dunn costing less than $1MM, is St. Louis able to splurge on Bozak or Perron, and without either one of them, do they win the cup? That's not to say Dunn's only value comes from his cheapness, but it is a pretty large boost to his value. Vince Dunn is a maturing puck moving defenseman who has loads of offensive skill but is still a work in progress in his own end. Vince Dunn has all the mobility and puck moving skill that modern NHL defensemen should have. While he won't rattle off a big hit along the boards and is sometimes prone to getting outmuscled for pucks, his speed gives him defensive value thanks to his ability to facilitate zone exits and make stretch passes. That speed also drives his offensive value, as he's a zone entry specialist and can help facilitate a power play. His aggressive offensive style means he's prone to his fair share of mistakes, but that should smooth out as he matures. Dunn is a valuable, offense-focused defenseman who should play with a veteran defensive partner to help him mature in his own end. He's a #5 right now but has real upside to be a #3 and be a major contributor on a second pairing.
