VICTOR HEDMAN

VICTOR HEDMAN - Defenseman - 28 - $7.87MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2025-2026

LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
A part of Tampa Bay's blueline since he was a teenager, Victor Hedman has been another example of the long line of excellent defensemen Sweden has exported to the NHL. Hedman has grown consistently every season he's been in the league, and has become one of the game's most consistent and well-rounded defensemen. Hedman is a towering defenseman, standing six inches above six feet tall, and he uses that size to his advantage often. He's no Scott Stevens, but he can muscle his way to pucks and take up space on defense. Hedman is a fantastic skater and can be a real boon in the transition game, helping facilitate zone exits and zone entries. Hedman can capably anchor a penalty kill and elevate a weaker partner, sheltering him on the first pairing, which is the true sign of a #1 defenseman. Offensively, Hedman's production can bounce from Norris-level 70 point production to "only" 50+ points, but at either mark he's still an elite offensive producer from the back end. His mobility helps him join the rush and his fantastic brain and puck skills make him a safe outlet on the power play in case his forwards feel too much pressure. Hedman is an elite defenseman on both ends of the ice and is one of the game's premier #1 defensemen.
