TYLER SEGUIN - Center - 27 - $9.85MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2027-2028
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
After putting his controversial Bruins days behind him, Tyler Seguin's growth in Dallas is perhaps the biggest reason why the Bruins chose to fire their former GM Peter Chiarelli. After being traded from Boston, Seguin blossomed into exactly the player he was drafted to be: the dominant, point-per-game franchise centerpiece 1C. Forming a deadly duo with captain Jamie Benn, Seguin has not dipped below 70 points since becoming a Star, with most seasons either above or hovering at a point-per-game. Seguin is an elite playmaker with good skating abilities and a high hockey IQ. He uses his speed and intelligence to create time and space with the puck and is a legitimate offensive engine. He drives play whenever he's on the ice, and he can be a major factor on the power play. Defensively, Seguin isn't a two-way center but he can win faceoffs and kill penalties decently. He shouldn't play in high leverage situations but he's smart enough to make it work in his own end. His scoring is where his value lies, though, and given his numbers and his talent he's a legitimate first line center and a true franchise player.
