TYLER MOTTE - Center/Winger - 24 - $.975MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/28/19
After bouncing around a bit to start his NHL career, Motte seems to have potentially found a place in Vancouver. He finally stuck with the big club for a full season, not even drawing into a single AHL contest, but he only made a small impact on the team while he was there. His offense wasn't incredible, and it doesn't look like that'll change anytime soon. Motte plays with energy and grit, and tries his hardest to make the most out of the limited offensive tools he has, but he simply is not skilled enough to create scoring chances consistently at the NHL level. But that's manageable, though, as long as his defense can carry him. That's partially for the case with Motte, as his energy, speed, and high motor makes him a plus defensive forward. Motte will always be hounding the puck carrier, his legs always moving, trying to get the puck. He won't win a Selke or create an insane amount of turnovers, but he'll be a consistent, noticeable defensive presence that can energize a fatigued team. There's value in that, and he's a genuine fit on an energy fourth line. Motte is a fourth line energy guy with a touch of scoring potential if he can fit in with some more talented linemates.
