TYLER BOZAK - Center - 33 - $5.00MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
While nagging injuries and some inconsistency kept Bozak from being the best he could be in Toronto, he really seemed to come into his own in St. Louis. On a team already employing offensive stars like Brayden Schenn and Ryan O'Reilly down the middle, Bozak was free to play in a role he's far more fit to be playing in given his talent level and tools. Bozak wasn't expected to carry a line in the top-6, and he could focus on being a more well-rounded, dependable player. This resulted in Bozak becoming an invaluable asset during the Blues' cup run, as Bozak's motor, work ethic, and underrated offensive touch all shined in the playoffs. Bozak is a decent enough skater who has good vision, but more importantly plays with a lot of grit and a lot of energy. He'll fight for everything he can get, on every shift, and that sort of relentless battling is something that can be incredibly valuable when the team is bogged down by the intensity of the playoffs. Bozak's lack of high-end offensive tools means he won't contribute overwhelming offense 5v5, but on the power play where Bozak is given more time and space with the puck he really shines. Bozak can capably produce 40 points of offense with ample power play time, and that level of production combined with Bozak's energy and defensive diligence makes him a great 3C for St. Louis have.
