TYLER BERTUZZI - Left Winger - 24 - $1.4MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 3/7/19
A 2013 second round pick, Bertuzzi was a bit of a slow developer for the Wings but has begun to establish himself in the NHL over the past two seasons. A physical, gritty, and sometimes dirty winger, Bertuzzi plays a rough-and-tumble, hard nosed game but has sneaky offensive ability as well. Bertuzzi’s tough style makes him an offensive asset as a crease cleaner and net screener, and despite his initial appearance as a glove dropper, Bertuzzi has sneaky good awareness and playmaking ability. Not a spectacular skater but definitely good enough to hold his own playing in Detroit’s top-9, Bertuzzi’s game is somewhat similar to that of a poor man’s Brad Marchand. As of right now, Bertuzzi has proven himself to be a premium top-9 winger who can play in a top-6 when needed, and his play finally seems to be developing for the Wings.
