TROY TERRY - Center/Right Winger - 22 - $.750MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 7/18/19
Terry is very similar to Sam Steel, in that both of their debuts as professional hockey players were marked by uneven NHL runs and excellent AHL tenures. Terry was a point-per-game AHL force, and showed his upside in flashes in Anaheim, even making himself third star of the week after posting seven points in a four game stretch. Terry has undeniable offensive upside, pairing elite playmaking abilities with a deadly shot. He's an incredibly smart player and a strong skater, and has huge offensive upside as a winger. All that being said, Terry's weaknesses are largely identical to Steel's, in that he's not strong enough or large enough to be a factor defensively or when pressured for the puck. He's got definite top-line upside, just as Steel has elite offensive 1C potential, but he'll need to better endure the NHL game to do so. As a former 5th round pick, betting against Terry is a risky choice, and as long as he continues to develop Terry should form Anaheim's offensive nucleus with Sam Steel in the post-Getzlaf era.
