TROY STECHER - Defenseman - 25 - $2.325MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/28/19
Stecher is an undersized defenseman who's been a solid contributor in Vancouver for three years now. He's not overwhelmingly skilled, but instead uses his mobility and intelligence to bring value to his team. He can cover a lot of ground thanks to his skating, and while his puck skills aren't exactly incredible, he can help out a team's transition game. Stecher struggles in the tough areas of the ice, and isn't nearly as physical as you would like. That being said, he can still manage to kill penalties thanks to his speed and awareness, making him a plus defensive defenseman. Elite point production shouldn't be expected, but Stecher can reliably hit 20 points in a good year thanks to his mobility and hockey sense. Overall, he's a fine fifth defenseman capable of sticking around on a bottom pairing with another #5 and also helping out a second PK unit.
