TREVOR DALEY - Defenseman - 35 - $3.16MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 3/7/19
The former longtime Dallas Star and back-to-back cup champ with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017, the Wings signed Daley to a 3 year contract in the 2017 offseason. Since signing, Daley has been a valuable asset for the Red Wings not necessarily for his play on the ice, but his veteran presence in the locker room. For a rebuilding team like Detroit, it is important to have a few veterans to teach younger players, and Daley has done just that with the Wings. Nearing 40 years of age, Daley skates generally well for his age and still has a quick shot, though his passing and speed have declined pretty significantly, and he isn’t quite as physical as he once was. While he definitely isn’t a serviceable top-4 blueliner like he was in Dallas due to his advanced age, Daley can still hold down a spot on the Red Wings bottom pairing and eat minutes in the top-4 if need be. However, on a competitive team, Daley’s more of a 6th-7th option.
