TRAVIS ZAJAC

TRAVIS ZAJAC - Right Winger - 34 - $5.75MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022

LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
As a Devil for the past thirteen seasons, Travis Zajac hasn't always been the most dazzling forward but he has been remarkably consistent. Zajac, when healthy, as typically brought ~45 point scoring and sound defensive play to the Devils, and has continued to do so despite aging considerably. Zajac is a decently big center with a high hockey IQ. He has mid-range offensive tools, he's a decent skater but doesn't have elite speed, and doesn't have the best puck skills. Zajac's best work is in the defensive zone, though, and he routinely gets down-ballot Selke votes for his efforts. He's adept at staying with the puck carrier and limiting their time and space with the puck. He can effectively win faceoffs, and use that ability in the dot to be a very effective penalty killer. He can legitimately anchor a PK unit and can handle the toughest defensive assignments. While he's not an offensive play driver, his defense is what brings his value to the next level and he's a decent two-way 2C or a high-end shutdown 3C.
