TRAVIS SANHEIM - Defenseman - 23 - $3.25MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
After steadily developing as one of Philadelphia's top defensive prospects, Travis Sanheim really came into his own in 2018-19. He found a fit on Philly's top pairing with Ivan Provorov by the season's end, and finished with nearly 40 points. Sanheim is a very well-rounded defenseman. He's a natural puck mover with good vision, and he's an above-average skater. He hasn't quite made an impact on special teams yet, but as he earns new coach Alain Vigneault's trust that should change. He has the potential to be an impact power play facilitator and a capable penalty killer, even if he isn't a shutdown force. Travis Sanheim's versatility is his best asset, and his ability to be a capable defender in his own end and then join the rush and help out on offense is a great trait. He's a legitimate #4 defenseman right now, capable of anchoring a bottom pairing but also someone who needs a bit of help to play top-4 minutes, but as he gets more games under his belt he should take a step forward and develop into a #2, capable of anchoring a second pairing or partnering with another #2 to play on the top pairing. He may not have true #1 dman potential, but he's still a high-end young defenseman who's only getting better.
