TRAVIS HAMONIC - Defenseman - 29 - $3.85MM Cap Hit - 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/29/19
A heart-and-soul player for the New York Islanders, Hamonic was traded for a bounty of draft picks because of his open desire to play closer to his home in Western Canada. Hamonic is a naturally physical player, and despite his lack of overwhelming size he uses that physicality to win board battles and fight for loose pucks. He's got a decent shot and good enough skating to not be a liability in transition, but calling him an offensive defenseman would be a huge mistake. He's not the 30+ point scorer he was once in New York, but he's a capable defensive defenseman who coaches can trust to play 20 tough minutes per night, as well as be a positive force in the locker room. He's a good, but offensively limited physical #4 defenseman.
