TRAVIS BOYD - Center - 25 - $.800MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 9/20/19
The Capitals 6th round pick in 2011, Boyd grinded his way through the Capitals system for several seasons before finally breaking out in 2018-2019 and proving himself to be a useful bottom-6 option for Todd Rierden’s squad. At 5’11 185 lbs, Boyd is slightly smaller than average, and while he’s shown some solid scoring ability in the AHL, he offensive abilities are limited at the NHL level. No one asset of Boyd’s game really stands out, but he plays a responsible defensive game and limits his mistakes in all 3 zones of the ice. Boyd didn’t play much on the Capitals’ penalty kill in 2018-2019, but his skillset may make him an asset there in the future. If he can continue his responsible play, Boyd will remain a low-cost bottom-6 forward for the Caps.
