TIMO MEIER - Right Winger - 22 - $6.00MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
While he had a disappointing rookie season as a former ninth overall pick, Timo Meier exploded in 2018-19, scoring 30 goals and adding 36 assists in 78 games. Meier established himself as a true offensive force, finally translating his tools into consistent scoring. Meier has great speed and thinks the game at a high level. Unlike many other fast forwards, Meier's brain isn't a step behind his feet, and that mental quickness is what sets him apart. He's able to effectively leverage his speed into time and space to make plays, and as a result he's a great playmaking winger. As a shooter, Meier is also strong, as he pairs his quick release with great vision and scoring instincts, and he should be good for 30 goals annually going forward. Defensively, Meier isn't a high-end winger and won't kill penalties, but he's smart enough to make himself useful and is fast enough to be an effective backchecker. He shouldn't be considered a true defensive plus, but he isn't a liability and his offense is so good that it would be fine even if he was a true defensive minus. Meier is a smart, tenacious winger who can drive play and easily fit in as a true top-6 player.
