TIM HEED - Defenseman - 28 - $.960MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Since coming over from Sweden, Tim Heed enjoyed immediate success on North American ice. Heed had a point-per-game season as a defenseman in the AHL, and looked poised to be an impact NHL player. Since then, though, Heed has struggled to keep his place in Sharks' NHL lineup nightly and although he has produced decently well he hasn't been able to hold down a spot. Heed is a natural puck-moving defenseman. He's undersized at under six feet tall, but he boasts great mobility and above-average skating. He can help a team with zone exits as well as zone entries, and is a true asset in transition. Heed has a good point shot and can be a triggerman as well as a facilitator on the power play. Defensively, Heed's lack of size is an issue but he reads the play well in his own end and has good enough skating to be able to interrupt passing lanes and burst to loose pucks. He's not a huge plus in his own end, but he can handle himself. Thanks to his puck moving abilities, Heed is a valuable offensive defenseman, and thanks to his capability on defense he should be a real NHL defenseman now that San Jose's blueline isn't as stacked. Heed is a good #5 defenseman who can fit on a bottom pairing with another #5.
