THOMAS GREISS - Goalie - 32 - $3.33MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-21
LAST UPDATED 12/17/18
After having a solid start as the Isles' #1, his workload kept increasing, and his production kept decreasing. After being subjected to former HC Doug Weight's defense-optional system, Greiss struggled massively, lost his #1 role, and posted a sub .900 sv% (.892) Given his struggles and inconsistency with a high workload, and being a 33 year old goaltender, Greiss is not the potential #1 goalie he once was. Based on how Greiss has performed in a much more stable defensive system under new HC Barry Trotz, as well as having his workload decreased as the 1B under Robin Lehner, it looks like Greiss is now definitively a backup goalie at the NHL level with the upside to be more of a 1B and start ~30 games at the NHL level.
