TAYLOR HALL - Left Winger - 27 - $6.00MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Yes, I know he was traded for Adam Larsson, straight up, and then won the Hart. I'm not here to talk about Hall in the context of how he became a Devil, I'm here to talk about Hall in the context of how he is as a Devil. While he was inconsistent in his first season and battled injuries this past season, his 2017-2018 season was one of the most dominant surprise seasons by a left winger in recent NHL history. Hall controlled play whenever he touched the ice, and took on the role of the team's first line center despite being a left winger. I say that in the sense that he was the one who drove offensive play, and typically, as he went the team went. Transcendent talents who can completely carry the weight of an entire franchise are hard to come by, making Hall all the more special. Taylor Hall is an offensive superstar, with elite playmaking instincts, skating, and puck skills. We know that. What we don't know is that Hall is also a pretty underrated defensive player, so while he may not win a Selke he's still a capable player in his own end. The expectation for Hall offensively is a 82+ points every healthy season, and he's shown the ability to produce that with little to no support next to him. He's a true self-starter on offense and can carry lesser teammates as an elite #1C can. He's one of the game's most dynamic wingers and should get an incredibly lucrative contract if he hits the open market. A truly elite talent.
