STEVEN STAMKOS - Center - 29 - $8.5MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2024-2025
LAST UPDATED 8/22/19
Stamkos had some inconsistent seasons in his mid-twenties, falling below a point-per-game production for the first time since his rookie season in 2014-15, and his production fell to 64 points the season after that. A really rough injury served as a reset for Stamkos, and since he's returned from injury he's been a completely dominant offensive force. Stamkos has very good command of all of his tools. He's the last player to score 60 goals in a season, and he has one of the game's best shots. Whereas earlier in his career he had the reputation of being a shoot-above-all center, he's really refined his playmaking skills since then. He skates well, plays hard on the puck, and checks all the boxes for a play-driving #1 center Defensively, Stamkos has steadily improved as he matured. He still plays with aggression and can be mistake-prone, but he also has a lot of games under his belt and plays with a lot of diligence and maturity. He's big enough and strong enough to fight his way to pucks, and if necessary he can match up with tough offensive opponents and help use his smarts and size to cut down on the space they have on the puck. He probably shouldn't kill penalties, but there are worse defensive centers. Stamkos is a franchise 1C and one of the best and most consistent offensive forces in hockey.
