SEAN WALKER - Defenseman - 24 - $.745MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/22/19
Sean Walker is an example of a prototypical 21st century defenseman. He's undersized, standing less than six feet tall, but he's an adept puck mover and a big asset in transition. He can make stretch passes, help with zone entries, and collect assists on a power play. He's not a major offensive producer, and doesn't have the elite playmaking abilities or strong shot that's necessary for him to be a true offensive dynamo, but he's strong enough as a skater and with the puck on his stick to have a role as a puck mover. His defense is still a work in progress, and due to his limited size and physical traits he struggles to make a hugely positive impact in his own end. He seems like he definitely belongs on the ice when his team gets possession of the puck in his own end but seems like he should be off of the ice in the minutes that preceded that. If he can bulk up a bit and emulate undersized defenders who are effective defensively, Walker could have potential to be a good #4 puckmover, but at this point Walker is best left as a sheltered #6 who can help a power play and help with the transition game.
