SCOTT WILSON - Center/Left Winger - 27 - $1.05MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/28/19
A Stanley Cup winner and a strong middle-6 centerman in Pittsburgh, Wilson has been a massive disappointment in Buffalo. In 2017-18, he bounced around the trade market, but finally found a home in Buffalo. He had a weak season in Buffalo, though, and failed to bring the hard-nosed, responsible two-way playmaking skills he showed in the Pittsburgh organization, instead proving to be a liability offensively and defensively. He even spent time at the AHL level, where he used to be a strong offensive player but now struggled to find his rhythm in Rochester. The upside for Wilson is still there, he used to be an effective, versatile bottom-6 player on a Stanley Cup team, but that's not in him now. For him to become an NHL regular again, he'll need to rediscover what made him so successful in Pittsburgh, or at least what made him successful in AHL Wilkes-Barre Scranton so he can at minimum help Rochester compete for a calder cup. As of right now, he's not worth the million dollars he's costing against Buffalo's cap.
