RYAN MILLER - Goalie - 39 - $1.12MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 7/8/19
While he was once an elite franchise goaltender, Ryan Miller has settled in as more of a veteran mentor backup goalie. The instincts and overall talent is still there for Miller, but his physical abilities have eroded with his age, and as a result Miller is simply unable to perform at a high enough level for enough games to be a starting goalie. In a game-to-game sense, Miller is one of the more valuable backups in the NHL, but unfortunately he simply does not have enough remaining stamina or endurance to be able to take over for a long stretch were John Gibson to get injured. Because of this, Anaheim needs to have a capable band-aid at the AHL level in case of a Gibson injury, but that's a smart move regardless of Miller's presence so that fact doesn't hurt Miller's value. He's still a solid backup goalie and should remain one until he experiences a Jonas Hiller-esque fall or he chooses to retire at the conclusion of his current contract.
