RYAN GETZLAF

RYAN GETZLAF - Center - 34 - $8.25MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022

LAST UPDATED 7/6/19
The face of the Ducks franchise for most of its recent existence, Ryan Getzlaf has seen his stock as an offensive force erode over the past season. Where he could once be consistently relied upon to produce 70-80 points per season, Getzlaf regressed heavily (along with the overall state of the Ducks as a franchise) and posted an uncharacteristically bad 48 points in 2018-19. Getzlaf has always relied on his size and strength to create time and space with the puck to rack up points. His game has never been based on speed, and in an increasingly quick NHL Getzlaf seems like a relic of the past. This is not to say that Getzlaf's playstyle doesn't hold value, but as Getzlaf ages and his strength deteriorates his abilities as a playmaker should regress as well. He's still an incredible leader and has the grit and intelligence to make it work, but the days of him as an elite #1C are over. He's more of a 1B at this point, best fit as a 2C on a cup contending team.
