RILEY SHEAHAN

RILEY SHEAHAN - Center - 27 - $.900MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021

LAST UPDATED 3/7/19
Riley Sheahan, the former Red Wing center who famously went nearly all of 2016-17 without scoring a goal, found himself traded to Florida (along with other pieces) for Nick Bjugstad. He's a player who seems to have peaked as a 23 year old, as he has not again reached the 36 point mark he reached in 2014-15. Sheahan is not an offensive player. He's not a good shooter, nor does he possess any of the requisite offensive tools that are necessary to be a consistent offensive producer. Despite these shortcomings, he still finds himself an everyday NHL player due to his defensive discipline and ability to kill penalties. His defensive play as a center is strong, and he can take on decently tough matchups, but he's the type of player who's best never touching the puck. Going forward, it's important that Sheahan finds the right fit for himself as a player so he can remain an NHL-er, but if that can happen he can re-assert himself as one of the league's better 4th line centers.
