RADEK FAKSA - Center - 25 - $2.20MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/17/19
While the Dallas Stars had probably hoped that Faksa’s offensive game would have developed more since his point-per-game draft season in the OHL, he’s still proven himself to be a valuable NHL player and a player worthy of the first-round investment the Stars made in him at the 2012 draft. Faksa never quite rekindled the magic of his draft year success at the OHL level, and he never again scored at a point-per-game rate in the OHL. That being said, Faksa was a very professional scorer at lower levels, and did not fall into the same traps many successful junior scorers end up falling into. He’s always relied on certain habits and certain skills to score that would translate well to the professional level, and as a result he’s been a consistent depth scorer at the NHL level, typically good for ~15 goals and ~30 points. That production, combined with his high-end defensive game, allows Faksa to be a very valuable Dallas Star. Faksa combines a great work ethic with a high hockey IQ to be a shutdown center, and thanks to his elite defensive stick and above-average size Faksa is able to be Dallas’ premier defensive center. He can chip in on offense and handle tough defensive assignments, making him the perfect 3C for the Stars.
