PAVEL BUCHNEVICH - Right Winger - 23 - $3.25MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2021-2022
LAST UPDATED 3/7/19
A crafty winger who oozes raw upside, Buchnevich has routinely fallen out of favor with Rangers coaches. One of the reasons Rangers fans had such a negative opinion of coach Alain Vigneault late in his tenure was his insistence on playing Buchnevich in his bottom-6 rather than in a scoring role. While he has at this point found a fit with Zibanejad and Vesey on coach Quinn's top line, Buchnevich has actually seen his total average ice time decrease since his last year with Vigneault. As a result, Buchnevich has still struggled to make the most out of his tools and turn his raw upside into actual production. His career high in points is 43, and combined with his lackluster play away from the puck Buchnevich has turned out to be a little bit of a frustrating player. Rangers fans know he's capable of so much more, yet he's never able to quite reach that level. If he can finally gain some consistency and score regularly, he can blossom into a great first line winger. If not, he'll be stuck in the same lineup purgatory that has plagued him for his entire North American career.
