PATRIC HORNQVIST - Right Winger - 32 - $5.3MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
A large thorn in the sides of every Metropolitan Division team outside of Pittsburgh for the past half decade now, Patric Hornqvist is one of the more underrated offensive difference-makers in hockey. First off, Hornqvist can shoot. He's scored 20+ goals in every NHL season where he's played at least 70 games, and sometimes with less. Hornqvist isn't big but he's very strong, and he excels at getting the most out of his only average frame. Hornqvist is one of hockey's best in front of the net, which makes him a major asset on the power play. Hornqvist is an elite screener and makes the most out of every shot that comes his way, able to grind out tough pucks into tip in goals. Hornqvist's skating and overall puck skills make him only "good" on 5v5 offense, where speed is more at a premium, but in situations where he can just park himself in front of the net or dig pucks out of corners, he's an elite offensive presence. Defensively, Hornqvist isn't an elite player, and lacks the coverage skills to be an impact penalty killer. That being said, he plays a physical game with a good motor, and as a result he can hold his own defensively, even if he isn't a plus defensive winger. Hornqvist is an incredibly valuable net front presence and can be a huge help for a power play, but outside of that he's a decent second line power forward with physical value.
