OLIVER KYLINGTON - Defenseman - 22 - $.730MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/29/19
Kylington can be a very frustrating defenseman. At times, he flashes his incredible upside, using his elite skating abilities and good passing skills to rush the puck up the ice and create incredible offensive chances. But the next minute, he'll make a boneheaded choice with the puck, get caught, and that choice will directly lead to a goal for the other team. Kylington also lacks the size and strength to be a shutdown force at the NHL level, so if his offensive abilities could be showcased more consistency, he could be a viable NHL defenseman, but unfortunately, those mental mistakes and his lack of offensive consistency has been what's kept him in the AHL thus far. He has such incredible upside because of those natural tools he has, but he simply has not shown the ability to utilize those tools consistently at the highest level while also minimizing his mistakes. If he could work things out, the sky is the limit for what he could do, but unfortunately he hasn't shown the ability to change those inconsistent and sometimes stupid tendencies, so he could be facing a career as a AAAA tweener who everyone wonders why he isn't at the NHL level. An "all the tools, no toolbox" type of player.
