NOAH DOBSON - Defenseman - 19 - Drafted 2018 #12 Overall
LAST UPDATED 1/16/19
Dobson, the Isles' top defensive prospect, skyrocketed his draft stock in his draft season and became a top-20 selection. Standing at 6-foot-4, Dobson has the ideal size for an NHL defenseman, and he is a great skater with mobility that is rare for a defenseman of his stature in junior. He has produced well offensively in the QMJHL (despite starting off 2018-19 on a terrible team) and he has great offensive instincts and playmaking abilities. He has great puck-moving abilities and will likely be a factor at the NHL level on the powerplay. His defensive play is intelligent and Dobson can effectively kill chances with his stickwork, positioning, and instincts, rather than plainly using his size to knock opponents off of the puck. Going forward, Dobson has the tools, work ethic, and measurable to profile as a potential #1 defenseman, and if he can continue to develop, he could be the savior for the Islanders' blueline. Given all of his attributes, though, he does look like a safe bet to be at least a #4 defenseman, but that's obviously at the low end of his upside and the Islander's likely view him as their #1 of the future given their first-round investment in him thus far.
