MICHAEL McNIVEN - Goalie - 21 - Undrafted
LAST UPDATED 12/14/18
A former CHL goalie of the year, McNiven has struggled since leaving amateur hockey. He has yet to post a sv% above .900 at the end of a season at either level, AHL and ECHL, and although save percentage is a flawed statistic, .900 is the baseline number to really be a viable goaltender. McNiven simply has not been given enough starts and enough opportunities to develop, and for goalies, the key to progression is seeing as many shots and as many starts as possible. McNiven has not had that, and given his lack of an imposing frame, (he stands at just 6 foot 1) he does not look like a likely NHL goalie. But, as always, goalie prospects are extremely volatile, so there's still always that slim chance he breaks out.
