MICHAEL McCARRON

MICHAEL McCARRON - Center - 23 - Drafted 2013 #25 Overall

LAST UPDATED 12/14/18
Without his 6-6, 230 pound size, McCarron is essentially a nothing player. Drafted in the first round because "you can't teach size," McCarron has struggled to find his way into the NHL lineup consistently. He has proven he can score reasonably in the AHL, but when he gets called up to Montreal he typically settles into a 4th-line enforcer role, which severely limits the offensive impact he can have. He's not tremendously skilled, nor does he skate particularly well. His size is what he uses to create most of his offense, as he's difficult to knock off of the puck and he's an asset in front of the net screening the goalie. Going forward, it looks more and more likely that he'll never quite sort it out and become a consistent NHL-er, but in the right situation, given his size and his draft pedigree, he could turn into a bottom-6 physical center/winger who thrives in front of the net, in the corners, and in the penalty box.
