MATTHEW PECA - Center - 25 - $1.3MM - UFA in 2020-21
LAST UPDATED 12/9/18
Peca turned a few successful seasons with AHL Syracuse into an NHL contract with Montreal. He's a decently speedy player, and there's some innate creativity in the way he plays that suggests he might have some untapped potential. He's more of an offensive, playmaking guy, which limits his viability as a bottom-6 player, and given his age it's unlikely he breaks out as a top-end offensive scorer, but he's a good guy for rebuilding clubs to take a chance on as a "lottery ticket" type of player. He's not bad defensively, necessarily, he just isn't strong enough defensively to cement himself outside of the top-6 and he's also not a consistent enough producer to be inside the top-6 either. It'll take more of a sample size than 22 NHL games to really see what Peca's made of, though.
