Martin, a fan favorite was essentially acquired for free from Toronto in the Isles' summer attempt to reassemble the effective Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck fourth line. Martin is a hard nosed grinder who doesn't offer much to the Islanders apart from his physicality. He's very similar to Cal Clutterbuck in his playstyle, and given his relatively bloated contract, his value is similar too. At 29 years old, there's not much room for improvement, and as long as his skating and physical condition does not regress too much, he looks to be an established NHL-quality 4th line grinder going forward.
