MATT GRZELCYK - Defenseman - 25 - $1.4MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 1/30/19
A 3rd round pick by the B’s in 2012, Grzelyck took some time to get to the NHL, but since earning a full-time role in the 2017-2018 season has fit in quite nicely on the Bruins blue line. A solid skater and surprisingly good puck mover whose size (5’9, 176 lbs.) limits him from playing a physical game, Grzelcyk is a good bottom pairing option for the Bruins who can handle top-4 minutes in a pinch. Also, despite his small stature, Grzelcyk’s skating allows him to keep opposing players in front of him, making him a puck-moving d-man who isn’t a total defensive liability. At 25, Grzelcyk’s age may hinder him from developing much more, but if his offense continues to steadily improve and his defense becomes more tolerable, Grzelcyk can be a solid puck-moving #4 defenseman in Boston.
