MARKUS GRANLUND - Center - 26 - $1.3MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 9/1/19
Markus Granlund never quite put it all together in Vancouver. He nearly scored 20 goals there, and flashed some real scoring upside, but injuries damaged his ability to find true offensive consistency and as a result he finds himself on his third NHL opportunity. There are genuinely things to like about Granlund's game. He has a good shot, he has good offensive instincts, and his overall hockey IQ is underrated. His shot and puck skills make him a plus power play player, and he can definitely score goals given the opportunity. Defensively, Granlund is strong, and he's shown the ability to be reasonably physical and smart enough to kill penalties. He's not an elite defensive forward, but he's soundly in the plus column regarding his defensive game, and that combined with his offensive talent makes him a good third line two-way forward to have.
