MARK JANKOWSKI - Center - 24 - $1.675MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/29/19
A first round pick in 2012, Jankowski finally broke into the NHL in 2017-18 after a long time developing in the NCAA and AHL. In Calgary, Jankowski has been able to stick in the lineup due to his superb defensive abilities. Isolated impact metrics showcase this point well. Jankowski has fine marks 5v5 for his defensive impact, but on the penalty kill he's shown to be a massive help to his team's ability to keep the puck out of the net. A part of this might be his great faceoff taking abilities, as well as his intelligence and ability to win battles for pucks. He's got a decent bit of skill, and has shown the ability to sustain a high shooting percentage, but don't expect him to score more than 40 points on a consistent basis. He does have decent puck skills and he's smart enough to make good passes here and there, but he's not a playmaker. He's a dilligent two-way center that keeps himself in the lineup with his great defensive play. While he's not quite attained shutdown status yet, he's an elite penalty killer and a good #3C with a little upside.
