MARK BOROWIECKI - Defenseman - 29 - $1.2MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 6/18/19
Throughout Ottawa's teardown from being a viable cup contender to the messiest organization in the NHL, one thing has been consistent: Mark Borowiecki. He's not a top-4 defenseman, nor is he really a high-end bottom pair asset, but he's the definition of a character player on and off the ice. He's incredibly tough and never takes a shift off. He's willing to put everything on the line for his teammates and do whatever it takes to win. He's an asset in the locker room and in practices, always bringing out the best in the younger players he mentors. Unfortunately, though, his ability as a skater (or lack thereof) and lack of any discernible offensive skill keeps him from being a great NHL defenseman and at 29 his career is only really going to regress from this point. That being said, Borowiecki still has a place in this league as an enforcer-like, high-character seventh defenseman.
