MARCUS SORENSEN

MARCUS SORENSEN - Right Winger - 27 - $1.5MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2021-2022

LAST UPDATED 8/20/19
Until this past season, Marcus Sorensen seemed like a fine fourth line energy player/13F, someone with a little bit of value but entirely replaceable in the grand scheme of the organization. This season, though, Sorensen responded to getting into the lineup regularly and getting increased opportunity with actual offensive production, where he nearly scored 20 goals. Sorensen isn't big, but he plays with a relentless motor and a lot of grit. He can get under his opponent's skin, steal the puck from them, and then rifle the puck in from the hashmarks. He's not an offensive creator on his own, but he has a good shot and his endless effort and determination puts him in positions to score. Defensively, Sorensen is capable, bringing physicality, energy, and decent defensive awareness to the back end. He can effectively kill penalties on the second unit and use his energy to be an effective forechecker. Sorensen is a good, well-rounded two-way agitator with some offensive chops and defensive skill. He can easily fit in as a third liner on a good team, and should be a steal costing less than $2MM assuming his shooting percentage stays steady and his shot volume doesn't drastically decrease.
