MACKENZIE WEEGAR - Defenseman - 25 - $1.6MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 3/18/19
A former 7th round pick, Mackenzie Weegar has just started to solidify himself as a solid #7 defenseman in the NHL. While he was a strong offensive force in junior hockey, Weegar has struggled to translate that offensive touch into NHL success. He's a good skater and possesses above-average offensive tools, but he's not enough of an well-rounded two-way force to warrant everyday ice time. At 25, he still has upside to grow into a more consistent, defensively well-rounded blueliner, but at this point he's still a seventh defenseman, with upside to be a #6 or even a #5.
