LUCAS WALLMARK - Center - 23 - $.675MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 7/25/19
After proving himself on North American ice via a 112 game AHL stretch where he posted 41 goals and 101 points, Lucas Wallmark continued his progress and finally broke into the NHL as a viable two-way depth centerman. Wallmark is a very well-rounded player, and is not only comfortable in the offensive zone creating plays but also in the defensive zone killing opposing chances. He's a smart player, with good defensive positioning skills and offensive instincts, but he lacks the high-end puck skills, strength, or skating he needs to be an elite NHL playmaker. With his level of skill (high-end for the AHL but mediocre in the NHL) Wallmark is capable of having 10-15 goal, 30-40 point seasons. He's not a physical player, so his upside in a bottom-6 role as a penalty killer is limited, but he's smart enough to adapt his game to most situations. Given his defensive record and rookie production, Wallmark is a low-end third line two-way center with some upside.
