LOGAN COCKERILL - Left Winger - 19 - Drafted 2017 #201 Overall
LAST UPDATED 1/16/19
Listed at only 5-9 and 164 lbs, making the NHL will be an uphill battle for Cockerill. Given his lack of size and non-dominant offensive production, Cockerill's upside seems minuscule at first glance. But, hidden under Cockerill's apparent shortcomings are some promising tools. Given his small stature, Cockerill's best asset is his speed. He consistently uses his strong straight-line speed to burst past defenders and create opportunities for himself. Despite his size keeping him from being much of a factor along the boards and in front of the net, Cockerill still plays a very intelligent two-way game and is an asset on BU's penalty-kill. Cockerill is a perfect example of the shortcomings of stat-watching as a means of evaluating prospects, and if Cockerill can bulk up and produce with more volume, he could be an intriguing prospect for the Islanders. If all goes well, (which is FAR from a certainty) Cockerill has the upside of a crafty middle-6 speedster who can play up and down the lineup and contribute to the team on both ends of the ice.
