LAURENT BROSSOIT - Goalie - 26 - $1.22MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2020-2021
LAST UPDATED 8/28/19
Laurent Brossoit has been a fine backup so far in his NHL career. Much of his success has been dictated by the team in front of him. He struggled on a weak Edmonton team, posting a -9.90 GSAA, but with a strong Winnipeg squad in front of him he flipped those numbers, posting a healthy 9.77 GSAA to go along with a strong .925/2.52 slash line. He's not the kind of goalie who can get hot for a massive stretch and steal the starters' job, at least not yet. He has great size and is aggressive about making saves, but he's only as good as the team in front of him. He won't often lose games for his team, but he also won't win them for his team with any consistency either. That makes him a very fine backup goalie, and given his age he still has potential assuming he responds well to an increased workload (if he even gets one) and the Jets could play him for 30+ games, see him perform well, and then look to flip him to a team looking for a potential starter. He's good as a #2 but has some potential thanks to his strong numbers when he plays on good teams.
