LARS ELLER - Center - 30 - $3.5MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2023-2024
LAST UPDATED 9/20/19
After 6+ seasons with the Canadiens and Blues, the Capitals signed Eller through the 2022-2023 season to serve as a reliable, middle 6 forward. So far, Eller has given the Caps three seasons of productive play, even though his name might never jump off the score sheet. Eller’s skillset revolves around his defensive play; his defensive awareness is well above average and his great skating ability allows him to get back to cover against oppositional rushes. Eller is a valuable member of the Capitals’ penalty killing unit, and his value to the team increases when you consider that he has a wealth of experience at both center and wing. While Eller is clearly a great two-way asset, his ceiling is limited by his offensive issues. While he may be a solid finisher, Eller doesn’t have the offensive awareness to create for himself and his teammates, meaning he’s probably best suited for a role as a high end 3C who can play in the top-6 in a pinch.
