KYLE TURRIS - Center - 30 - $6.00MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2024-2025
LAST UPDATED 8/30/19
After they spent a decent chunk of prospect capital to acquire Kyle Turris, shipping away Samuel Girard and Vladislav Kamenev, Turris was an immediate fit, posting 42 points in 65 games, strong numbers for a top-6 center. It all fell apart this past season, though, and Turris posted only 23 points and only got into 55 games, prompting Nashville to spend $8MM per year on Matt Duchene this offseason to fill the void Turris left in the top-6. Now, Turris seems like a lost asset. He was extended until 2024-2025, but on a team with two $8MM centers and another $4.1MM center, there simply is no room for Turris. I still think Turris has the talent to get back to being the 55-60 point, high-end 2C he was so recently. He still has great vision, puck skills, and playmaking instincts. But he's also prone to inconsistency and needs the right situation to thrive, and that situation simply was not there in Nashville. He needs a change of scenery badly, but it'll be tough to find a taker for Turris given his contract and recent performance. As of right now, I would only trust him to be an offensively-focused 3C, given that he's not a great defensive center, but if he can get traded and rebound into the 50 point range, he can be worth his contract as a decent 2C who can help out a power play.
