KURTIS MacDERMID

KURTIS MacDERMID - Defenseman - 24 - $.675MM Cap Hit - RFA in 2020-2021

LAST UPDATED 6/22/19
A big, punishing defenseman, Kurtis MacDermid has carved a professional hockey career through purely his ability to be feared on the ice. He's not feared for his offensive skill or his ability to shut down forwards, mind you, he's purely feared for his ability to use his size and speed to have massive hits. He's a poor puckhandler and a weak skater, so he's best left without the puck and best left sheltered from the NHL's faster skaters who will be able to beat him with pure speed in transition. MacDermid is a one-dimensional defenseman, a liability with the puck, in transition and on offense, and he's not smart enough or a good enough skater to be a true asset defensively. MacDermid's value is derived purely off his physical abilities and ability to intimidate opposing forwards. MacDermid can have value to an NHL team as a #7, but he'll only be an above-replacement-level defender if he can be sheltered by a good partner and a smart coach who is able to mask his deficiencies through usage.
