KEVIN HAYES - Center - 26 - $7.142MM Cap Hit - UFA in 2026-2027
LAST UPDATED 1/28/19
As a former 1st-round pick of Chicago, Hayes chose to stay in the NCAA system until his rights expired and he was able to sign an entry-level contract with the Rangers. Since then, Hayes has emerged as the big, productive middle-6 center that so many teams covet. Being in a contract year, Hayes' production has noticeably spiked, and he has departed his typical ~20 goal ~45 point pace for a near-PPG pace thus far into the 2018-19 season. While it's unlikely he remains a near point-per-game center, he does look to have proven himself as a legitimate top-6 center option. His size and playmaking abilities have allowed him to take advantage of his teammates and capitalize on his offensive opportunities. His defensive game is also improved, and he is now a somewhat viable penalty-killing option. He's not the fastest, nor is he the most physical player, but he's crafty and always finds his ways to score. He's in line for a big contract as he hits UFA status, and if he's signed to a reasonable contract, his (presumably) new team will be getting a big, consistent, high-character 2C.
